Great claim right, but how?
1. Qualification: Utilising the SAFe framework
Serocor Projects preferred methodology is the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), this allows us to break down project delivery into small programs of work or iterations.
When we break the overall project deliverable down into iterations, it helps us understand the delivery expectation clearer and subsequently enables us to qualify more accurately. As a result, we have a better idea of what we’re being asked to deliver and ultimately, we get it done – on time and faster each time, it also reduces risk for our client and ourselves.
2. Risk: We don’t bury our heads in the sand
The way in which we manage risk is to look at what we can deliver as a result of each iteration and how that reflects on the timescales and criticality of the overall program we’re involved in. By reducing our own risk this way it reduces risk for our clients. We utilise the ROAM (Resolve, Own, Accept, Mitigate) model to identify issues and risk, At the end of each iteration or smaller work package (a Sprint) we do a lessons learned exercise, we involve our project leads and the client stakeholders in which we ask three questions: What went well that we can repeat, what didn’t do well from which we can learn and what is preventing us from doing or completing XYZ of the next phase?
3. Embrace change
We embrace change in an environment where a shift in direction to a project plan can often be seen as a challenge or a problem. It all comes back to our use of small iterations. If it is small enough for us to qualify and manage the risk, then it’s small enough of us to course-correct. Particularly, if the client’s needs change or if the market changes whilst we’re implementing the program of works. With daily stand up meetings and end of sprint or deliverable lessons learned activities we can embrace what is typically feared in change and use it to deliver greater value – sooner.
